Visual search becomes easier when children learn where to look next. A systematic scan reduces missed targets and supports attention skills used in reading and classroom routines.
01
Define the target
Name or point to the exact item before searching. Discuss one feature that separates it from distractors.
02
Scan in a pattern
Move left to right across one row, then continue on the next. For scattered scenes, divide the page into four imagined sections.
03
Use a final check
Count marked targets and scan once more using the same path. Ask the child where an item could have been overlooked.
