Cut-and-paste pages combine several skills: holding paper, opening and closing scissors, following an edge, sorting pieces and controlling glue. A little preparation prevents the activity from becoming frustrating.

01

Prepare the page

Separate the cutting strip from the main worksheet when possible. Give child-safe scissors and keep the paper within comfortable reach.

Cut outside, then refine

For detailed pieces, first cut around a larger box and then trim closer to the outline. Turning the paper is often easier than turning the scissors.

Sort before gluing

Place every piece in its likely group and discuss uncertain choices before applying glue. Use a small dot or thin swipe to avoid soaked paper.
